Disney’s Epic Deals

Disney announced some major deals during earnings calls. On Thursday, the mouse house shares surged over 11%, projected to be its best day since the Covid bull market of December 2020, following the company's Q1 earnings report that surpassed expectations.

Epic Games

Disney is investing $1.5 billion in Epic Games, valuing the gaming company at $22.5 billion and giving Disney a roughly 7% stake in the company. This investment is part of Disney's strategic move to tap into the growing gaming market and create an entertainment universe integrating its various brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar, within Epic's Fortnite platform.

• The subscription service provides a wide array of sports media content to its subscribers that include linear sports networks like ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and more. Subscribers can access hundreds of hours of coverage from NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and top college divisions.

• The deal involves each company having a one-third stake, with nonexclusive licensing allowing each to provide their sports content to the platform.

• The amount of the monthly subscription fee is still unknown and has yet to be announced by the companies. However, it is expected to be higher than the cost of a regional sports network that usually ranges from 20 to 30.
