Influencers
WE WANT YOUR CLOUT

The Democratic National Convention has thrown open its doors to social media influencers for the first time, credentialing over 200 content creators to cover the event. Legacy media is not well. At the DNC, the lines between journalism and influencer culture are blurring in new ways.

This year, the convention floor hums with the whir of camera rigs and a new vibe at the DNC. They're not just attendees – they're participants, armed with microphones and a direct line to the younger voters that traditional media outlets often struggle to reach. According to the Pew Research Center, as of 2023, half of all U.S. adults get news from social media platforms at least sometimes. Influencers are capitalizing on this shift, building massive followings on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram that rival those of legacy news organizations.

A few creators who attended:

  • Nabela Noor, a TikTok personality with over 7 million followers. She's not just a creator – Noor is a vocal advocate for immigration reform, using her platform to mobilize her vast audience and turn her stories into action.

  • Olivia Julianna, a Texan TikTok star with a schedule packed with speaking engagements at the convention.

  • Deja Foxx, a TikTok star who spoke at the convention on Monday, is unapologetically pro-choice, using her platform to champion abortion access in a way that would be impossible for a non-objective story

These creators are the new media of political discourse, who've built trust with their audiences over several years. The Kamala Harris campaign seems to have embraced creators to 'make her cool.'

The rise of the influencer class at the DNC raises thorny questions about the future of political journalism. Unlike traditional reporters, social media personalities often embrace openly partisan stances, flouting the objectivity that's supposed to define mainstream media.

But in an era where "fake news" is a rallying cry and trust in media is at an all-time low, perhaps influencer storytelling is what Gen Z needs. They're unapologetically authentic, their political passions laid bare for all to see. And audiences are responding – by the millions.

The influencer-ification of the DNC is a microcosm of a broader trend reshaping the media landscape. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are investing heavily in influencer outreach, recognizing that these digital natives hold the keys to reaching voters where they live – on their phones, scrolling through endless feeds. It's TikTok in the political battleground, and each camp has embraced creators. Just weeks ago, Trump was interviewed and endorsed by Logan Paul and the Nelk Boys. Today, he was interviewed on one of the most popular podcasts, Theo Vaughn.

As the lines between journalism and influencer hot takes continue to blur, one thing is clear: the future of political discourse is being shaped by the spin rooms of TikTok. And we've just bought a ticket to a wild ride for the election cycle.

AlexCooper
IT’S FATHERS DAY

Alex Cooper is cashing in. The Call Her Daddy host just inked a massive $125 million deal with SiriusXM, leaving Spotify in the dust. But what does this mean for the Daddy Gang, and how did Cooper build a podcast empire worth nine figures?

"I'm beyond excited to work with SiriusXM," Cooper gushed in a statement. "The Daddy Gang will always be my top priority, and with SiriusXM we will continue to find new ways to evolve and provide my listeners the best experience. The Daddy Gang wants more, so we're getting ready to give them more…I can't wait for this new chapter to begin."

Alex Cooper

Daddy Gang Goes XM

The 29-year-old host of Call Her Daddy has signed a three-year deal with SiriusXM worth a cool $125 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But Cooper's path to becoming one of the highest-paid podcasters in the game was anything but overnight.

Cooper launched Call Her Daddy back in 2018 with her then-cohost Sofia Franklyn. The podcast quickly gained a rabid following for its unapologetic, authentic take on sex, relationships, and modern womanhood. But it was Cooper's solo era, beginning in 2021, that truly catapulted the show into the stardom. With her unapologetic humor and willingness to dish on even the most taboo topics, Cooper built a loyal army of female fans known as the Daddy Gang.

So what's behind Cooper's massive appeal? For starters, she's got a keen taste for controversy. From her very public feud with former employer Barstool Sports to her hot takes, Alex clearly had the it factor, where interview guests opened up. Her quick wit and casual humor mixed with sensitive topics. Cooper knows how to get people talking. And in an era where attention economy, this is the ultimate currency, this is her superpower.

She's leveraged her massive following into lucrative brand deals and a bestselling book. And with her new SiriusXM deal, she's betting on herself in a big way. The deal not only nets her a nine-figure payday but also gives her a platform to expand her Unwell podcast Network, which is set to become a content powerhouse.

Whats next?

So what does the future hold for Father, and the Daddy Gang? With her SiriusXM deal set to kick in in 2025, fans can expect even more content, collaborations, and controversy from the outspoken host. And as Cooper continues to build her media empire, one thing is clear: she's not just calling herself daddy – she's proving it, one eight-figure deal at a time.
